PR Tips for Data Analytics Pros - the course!
Sharing tips from my previous unrelated career to help you be more impactful
One question I’ve gotten a lot since I started creating data career content is
“Do you have a course?”
Meaning, can I teach you data analytics?
The answer has and will always be no. I have zero interest in offering a course like that, and frankly, that is a tall order. There are entire college degrees out there to teach you data analytics, just to give you an idea of the scale it would take to offer a worthwhile course.
So I’ve always kind of balked at the idea of teaching a course. Who am I to tell others how to be a data analyst or a data scientist or really anything??
However, I realized with my unique background, I am uniquely qualified and much more comfortable teaching a very niche subject at the intersection of my 20+ year career: Public Relations Tips for Data Analytics Teams.
If you’re new, I haven’t always been a Data Scientist. My undergrad degree is a BA in Communication, and I started my career working in marketing & public relations for about 7 years. (And then digital marketing for about 5 years, and then I pivoted to marketing analytics for 3 years, and then product analytics for 6 years, and now I’m in business analytics. I also got an MS in Data Science along the way.) (LOL I’m old.)
My “unrelated” background in marketing & public relations has been quite useful for analytics & data science. Not only is it helpful to have worked on the business side, but the communication skills I gained and the tactics I used in those roles are actually extremely useful in a technical role.
And now I would like to share that with others!
I’ve been giving a shortened version of this course as a conference talk, so far at MeasureCamp Chicago and PyLadiesCon. I hope to bring it to MeasureCamp NYC in March - which is a free event! - and maybe The Data Science Conference in May and other future events.
But now I am offering the extended version as a one-time 60-minute course, or really more of a seminar or lecture.
If you’d like to check it out, you can learn more and sign up via Maven. TBD if I offer it again - if it goes well, I probably will, but we’ll see!
